Quechua is a French company which was formed in 1997. The name is derived from a tribe of mountaineering people who live in the Andes and Quechua is a company which is passionate about the outdoors and maintaining and enjoying nature. The company started off in a very small way and originally traded from a small flat in Sallanches. They designed and produced specialised equipment for mountaineering and soon became recognised as one of the best in the industry. Through a lot of hard work and dedication the company has grown steadily each year and has become a major success story.
Nowadays Quechua has become one of the top five mountaineering equipment manufacturers in the world, employing over 200 staff which work from a purpose-built factory. Surprisingly over half the workers are now employed in a research and development capacity as Quechua push the boundaries of design in new products and materials. They have produced many new products in the last five years and one of the major success stories has been their range of tents.
The idea behind this range of tents is nothing short of genius as far as I am concerned. Historically the biggest headache with most tents was getting them pitched. This coupled with a need to keep the tents light ended up with a complicated arrangement of flimsy poles which were like a puzzle to put together and put a lot of people of camping altogether. Quechua have taken to the task and have managed to completely remove them from their products. It's not a coincidence that they call the range "2 second tents" as they are so easy to pitch and put away again. Not only that but they have created a range that is comprehensive enough to cover every type of need and have produced them for sale at a very reasonable price.
There are basically five types of tent in the range.
Family tents. There are 10 tents in this range which cater from 4 up to 8 campers with separate bedrooms available and even built-in lighting.
Instant tents. Aimed at campers who are constantly on the move, there are 18 tents in this range catering from single users up to 4 campers.
Mountaineering tents. This range is made super light for easy transportation, yet very strong to cope with strong winds and harsh weather. There are 5 tents in this range, again catering for 1 to 4 campers.
Small dome tents. There are only 2 tents in this range and they are basically for the occasional camper or someone who needs a small tent for a one-off trip.
Shelters. The 3 tents in this range are designed for additional storage or shelter for your gear when you are camping.
I would say this range is as comprehensive as you would ever need for family camping. The tents are of superb quality and the prices are affordable to anyone. I have to say that I can't fault this product at all and the speed of pitching needs to be seen to be believed.
